The Rice People

Based on the novel No Harvest But A Thorn by Malay author Shahnon Ahmad, and transposed from Malaysia to Cambodia, Rice People depicts a post-Cambodian Civil War family struggling to control their own destiny. In a Cambodia where children now believe that rice comes from UN relief trucks, a family attempts to grow their own rice on a small plot of land. But an escalating series of unfortunate events leaves both parents unable to lead the family. Now the eldest of their children, daughter Sakha (Chhim Naline), must bring in the rice crop and raise her six sisters.
